The Standard Life Assurance Company was established in 1825 and was reincorporated as a mutual assurance company in 1925
Standard life has always been an international company, by the end of the 19th century, policies were being sold all over Europe and worldwide, in places such as Germany, Ireland, Canada, Egypt, India, Shanghai and the West Indies.
The company grew and increased diversity, they developed different types of insurance by grouping them together under three main categories- pension schemes, investments and savings.
In the 1950's, they had grown into the largest life assurance company in Scotland, dominating the sector. By the 1990s they had become Europe’s leading mutual company.
Standard Life investments, a steadfast management business, were launched in 1998. From there on they continued to grow globally opening offices in many of the financial capitals of the world.
They became Standard Life plc in 2006 after a thorough review of the company, now they have about 1.2 million shareholders across the globe and that number is ever increasing.

About Us/Erasmus+
We are a group of International students, coming from Sweden, Germany, The Netherlands and Scotland.
The Erasmus+ project is entirely funded by the European Union and is an opportunity for us to experience working around Europe. This exchange programme helps us by giving us a flavour of different job sectors, helping us make important decisions on our future.
When we meet in the four different countries, we visit different companies that we may consider as a career path.
